Spruce Up Your Home for the Holidays with 4 Easy Ideas

As the temperature continues to drop and the leaves begin to fall, the holiday season is on our minds. That means holiday entertaining of friends, family, and guests will be here before you know it.  Is your home ready?

If you’ve been planning to undertake some major home improvement projects, this might not be the right time for such ambition.  Let’s not bite off more than we can chew right at the beginning of the holidays.  That is, if you want to avoid holiday stress, fatigue and a holiday-sized expense!

It’s really simple to spruce up your home in time for the holidays and here are 4 easy ideas.  So, let’s get started.

  1. Give your home a good cleaning –

Never underestimate the beauty of a clean house.  A squeaky-clean house makes a great first impression on guests as they arrive.  Hiring a cleaning agency would take the stress off you and free up your weekend, but if the cost of hiring a professional also stresses you, don’t worry you can have a “do-it-yourself” clean to your house before you know it.

You should always start at the top and work your way down, meaning let’s start with a good dusting.  Don’t forget the high areas like the tops of cabinets and drapery rods.  Also, give your light fixtures a good dusting so they sparkle.

Packing away unnecessary clutter will make a huge improvement in your interiors while also making room for your new holiday décor.  Lastly, do not forget to clean the floors and carpets.  You will be surprised by how stunning your home will look at the end of it.

       2.  Go to town with Accessories –

Now that your home is free of clutter, step back, take a good look around your space, and see what stands out in your home.  It is often the small things that make a big difference, like accessories and decorative objects.   Are there any décor items that reflect your unique taste, style or sense of art?  Have you grown tired of your existing accessories?  Do you want something fresh for the season?  Perhaps you could use something new that your family and friends will be “wowed” by!  Use figurines, candleholders, ceramic jars or new wall art – there are so many ways to personalize your home décor.  If you love it, your guests will too.

     3.  Treat Yourself to New Throw Pillows –

Throw pillows may look unassuming, but they can really make a demanding presence in your interiors, especially in the living room.  You can transfer any room simply by adding a new set of accent throw pillows to the room. Make sure you match the colors of the pillows to the overall décor of the room.  Pillows that features accents such as tassels and fringe can do wonders to add that special touch to any room’s look.  You can even add holiday themed pillows to give your interiors a festive feel.

       4.  Sprinkle a Bit of Christmas -

It wouldn’t be holiday décor without some Christmas, now would it?  How you bring the holidays into your home is totally up to you.  However, a good place to start is to consider incorporating a theme in your Christmas decorating.  Think about using a color to set your theme and start with adding color coordinated ornaments to your tree and then take that color throughout the rest of your holiday home décor. Don’t forget about color coordinating your gift wrapping under the tree as well.  It will give your entire home a cohesive look.

Will you be having overnight guests over the holidays?  Put a little Christmas tree in their room to make it extra special and festive looking, of course, reflecting your theme to complete the look.

It doesn’t get more classic then seasonal red ornaments and objects with old-fashion Christmas charm.  You could also opt for non-traditional colors like a mix of metals and glass ornaments for a more modern twist.  Some people enjoy a whimsical theme for their holiday décor, like a friendly dachshund or Scottish terrier all decked out in Christmas fun. Think about sprucing up garland with objects to match your theme. If you have a passion for music, try attaching miniature musical instruments to the garland for a festive look or red cardinals for the bird-watcher.  The possibilities are endless.
